A leader in developing, building and supporting Des Moines area communities, Hubbell Realty Company has been creating the places we live and work since 1856.  Hubbell’s long history of philanthropy is demonstrated through its commitment to positively impacting the communities it serves.  More recently, Hubbell has taken on the challenge of giving back to the community with “extreme” projects.

In 2006, the company was approached by ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to build a home for a family in need.  The home was completed in just 93 hours. With more than 200 partners and thousands of volunteers, it was an unprecedented project for all companies involved.

As a result of the success of the 2006 “extreme” project, Anawim Housing, an organization providing affordable housing, reached out to Hubbell to support their capital campaign.  Rick Tollakson, President and CEO of Hubbell Realty Company, suggested Hubbell could build a home for Anawim as a contribution to their campaign, but he was challenged to think bigger.

With the help of contractors, vendors, suppliers and volunteers, Hubbell completed another “extreme” project in September 2009, building not just one home, but nine homes for nine families.  The project was planned to take nine days, but with the support of so many, the homes were completed in just a week.

Now, Hubbell is preparing for another “extreme” event, Cabins for Campers 24/7.  New cabins will be built at Easter Seals’ Camp Sunnyside in seven days.  Tearing down the old cabins and replacing them with larger, more accessible facilities will impact the lives of staff and campers for years to come.
